Quiet, quiet. Where does it come from…

- “Wilderness Road”

I am a New York–based editor and writer and the author of six books, including a memoir, four poetry books, and a poetry craft book. My writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The Guardian, The New Republic, and Poetry, and has received national recognition, including starred reviews from Publishers Weekly.

I teach for the Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College, among other places, and have served as Artist in Residence at the Doel Reed Center for the Arts. I’ve served as Founding Editor and Editor-in-Chief of The Account, juried for the National Book Critics Circle and Yaddo, and held fellowships and residencies at Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, Sewanee Writers’ Conference, The Betsy Writers Room, Ragdale, and Yaddo.
